Gold Recycled
I am interested in reassessing and transforming inherent value of objects, particularly in pre-owned gold jewelry. Jewelry is often associated with people and relationships, serving as signifiers of personal connections, religious beliefs, or family heritage. Whether it's a pair of promise rings, a cross-pendant necklace, or an heirloom bracelet, most jewelry seems to carry significance beyond its original market value.
By repurposing these 'unwanted, yet valuable' gold items into new forms of jewelry, I explore how value shifts as objects change forms. This process generates intriguing relationships between the artist, material, and original owners. As I transform these objects, their value evolves, creating new narratives while honoring their histories. Each piece of recycled gold brings its own story, allowing me to explore how we assign, preserve, and reimagine value in both material and emotional terms.
